You will find a good choice of both of these products in our 'frames' selection.

  • Do you provider bifocal lenses?

No Specslab.co.uk opticians are against the provision of Bi-focal or Vari-Focal lenses on-line. They believe that these types of lenses require physical fitting by a qualified optician to ensure that your eyes are reacting to the lenses correctly.

  • Do you provide high prescription lenses?

  • How do I obtain my prescription?

We advise you to shop around for an eye test as prices vary from optician to optician. Yellow pages are a good place to start. Once your eyes have been tested please make sure that you get a clearly legible prescription including your P.D. (Pupillary Distance) measurement.

  • My prescription displays three different sets of information, which should I use?

If your prescription has Sphere (SPH), Cylinder (CYL) and Axis details for a distance prescription, an intermediate prescription, and a near prescription. Choose the Distance line if your glasses are required for seeing objects far away. Choose the Intermediate line if your glasses are required for PC operation etc. Or chose the Near line if your glasses are needed for reading or 'up close' work. Of course you can order three different pairs of glasses from specslab.co.uk to accommodate all of your viewing requirements. If you are unsure about the information shown on your prescription please ask your optician at the time of your eye test.

  • Do you supply prescription sunglasses?

Our 1.47 lens can be tinted to any colour that you require and our 1.56 lens can be provided in a Photo-Chromatic format see 'coatings'.

  • Will my frames fit properly when I receive them?

They might need slight manipulation to fit comfortably say around the ears, but with the use of a hairdryer to warm the arms these can be gently manipulated into a comfortable fit. If you need the pads repositioned most opticians will facilitate for a small fee.

  • If I make a mistake when entering the information but complete the order process what should I do?

All our glasses are checked by our LDO's before being packed for delivery. The order specification is checked against the physical product and the frames are checked for alignment and fittings. We then pack your spectacles in plastic sealed bag and fit them into their protective hard case. They are further packed into an outer dispatch box and posted to the delivery address you provided. As such they should arrive in pristine condition. If in the event that this is not the case you should inform us within 24 hours of receiving the product and we will replace them immediately, completely free of charge. (We will require you to post the original product back to us)

  • Do you supply contact lenses?

No we at Specslab.co.uk offer a fine quality range of frames and lenses but do not supply contact lenses at this point in time.

  • How do I measure my P.D. (Pupillary Distance)?

This measurement is required to ensure the correct positioning of your lenses within the frame you have selected. The information is sometimes given on your prescription but if not then request your eye examiner to supply it. If the P.D. on your prescription has two numbers please supply both of them in the 'additional information' box. If you wish to calculate your own P.D. simply stand in front of a mirror with a millimetre ruler on the bridge of your nose and measure the distance between your pupils (these are the smallest black dots at the centre of the eye). In other words measure the line connecting the two black dots. You can also get your partner or a friend to measure it for you. As a guideline: The average PD for an adult is between 60mm-65mm. We have pre set it to the average PD of 63mm, please feel free to change this if the measurement you take is different.

  • What type of lenses do you use?

Our standard lens is a plastic 1.47 CR39 clear. For further information on our full range just click on our 'Lens Types' button.

  • Can you re-glaze my existing frames?

Yes we have the facility to glaze any type of frame. The cost however will be exactly the same as if we supplied you with a new set of glasses, plus of course you would have to post your original frames to us. Any damage caused to your frames during the process will however be at your own risk as some frames can become brittle with age.

  • I cannot read my prescription.

Opticians should give you a clear, legible copy of your prescription to take away if this is not the case please ask your eye examiner for a copy including your P.D. that you can understand.

  • How do I know what frame measurements to use?

The simplest solution is to use the measurements from an existing comfortable pair of glasses you already own. On one of the arms you should find three measurements, one refers to the lens size and is not important as you are probably choosing a different frame and the other two refer to the arm length and width of the frames. With this information just compare our selection of frames and match the measurements.

  • What are your Delivery charges?

We charge £2.50 for next day delivery per set of frames ordered.  This offers compensation up to a maximum of £30 per package in the case of non delivery.

Or £5.00 for next day delivery per set of frames ordered sent via recorded delivery with a compensation level of £1,000.00 per package in the case of non delivery.

  • How can I pay for my glasses?

Our 'Secure Trade' on-line server accepts most forms of credit or debit cards. It is encrypted with 128bit SSL (International Banking Standards Software) and our site carries a secure certificate. Users can double-click the security padlock in the bottom right hand corner of the screen on the payment page and see our secure encryption certificate details.
